Tree Worker Safety Update By the Numbers: Another Us vs. Them
Another year, and arboricultural operations are still among the leading industrial activities for fatal and nonfatal injuries. Compared to all industries, tree workers have at least 15 times the fatality rate (Bureau of Labor Statistics 2020a) and three times the nonfatal rate (BLS 2018). You might take some comfort in the nonfatal rate being “only” three times that of all industries, but consider its meaning. Our incidents are so severe that we die.

The UK Rental Show
Wednesday saw the opening day of the UK’s annual Executive Hire Show, held for the first time since 2020. The event was well stocked with products including a fair range of mini cranes, aerial work platforms and lifting gear, as well as business service suppliers including the major rental software providers. It even played host to a brand new aerial lift manufacturer - Metal and Modular.

TOWER CRANE BRIDGE BUILD
In the Philippines a cable-stayed bridge is being built to join the islands of Cebu and Mactan.
Once completed the bridge will span approximately 650 metres and be supported by two of 150 m towers. To help build the bridge two Comansa 21LC660 flat-top tower cranes (36-tonne version) are being used.

Liebherr claims a world record for its latest model of wheeled mobile telescopic crane.
The six axle LTM 1300-6.3 is claimed as the first crane with a 90 metre telescopic boom and an axle load of 12 tonnes.
Its maximum hoisting height is given as 120 metres. Typical target applications are erecting tower cranes and tall aerials, plus wind turbine maintenance.
